Iowa Winter Strikes Again!
Madeline KrantzHere with your Creamy Mushroom & Wild Rice Soup to say hello!
The weather made this past week full of challenges for all of us Des Moines small business owners, whether we figured out how to make things happen, or had to close for multiple days. Rearranging our schedule to safely get your food to you two weeks in a row has left my brain and body tired. From doing a good chunk of the prep work that I normally split between 4 people, to sharing kitchen space with another business as they prepared food for a wedding of 300 on Saturday, to talking with our friends at Dinner Dispatch where the owners worked without staff or heat to get their orders completed - I’m reminded how small business owners will always make it work. Luckily, my kitchen crew is so positive and enthusiastic, they were also up for a challenge, and I was able to call in a couple extra people to help us for a jam packed day in the kitchen yesterday!
If I had a brick and mortar I would have been closed. We should all stay home and make ourselves some soup. But then I thought, there are people who can’t always stay home. There are people who have family members or necessary obligations to still take care of. And there are people who can’t or just don’t want to cook. And how special it is to be there, not just when things are going well, but when life happens, or when it’s -1000 degrees and we all could use the extra comfort of a nutritious meal someone else cooked for us.
We can make the soup. We’re here for you so that you can tend to other things, and that’s an honor. Having said that, I’ll be putting out a more limited menu tomorrow to give us a little bit of a break. Thank you for showing up, season after season.
❄️❤️ - Madeline
