Scared of “fake meat”?
Madeline KrantzScared of “fake meat”? Me too, honestly.
As someone who’s been vegan for over 10 years, meat feels foreign at this point. I never really was the biggest fan of the texture or taste, so luckily I don’t miss it. But I do crave patties or main dishes that bring flavors, textures, & a satisfaction that sometimes vegetables just can’t quite give.
Because I don’t love commercial processed meat alternatives, I set out to make my own. I make them from scratch using vegetables, beans, grains, & spice blends. The opportunities are endless - which is exactly what gets me excited about what I do!
One of my pet peeves is when something is shaped like a burger, but tastes like mushy mashed beans. 😂 Such a let down! We aim to do better. There’s a lot of trial & error in developing the recipes, & the NWK team spends lots of time each week making them. The end result is so worth it!
I look at it as adding something new & one of a kind into your diet - you don’t have to be ready to, or even interested in giving up meat today, to eat & enjoy these as an alternative. We have a couple options on our menu every week for incorporating into your meals at home.
Here’s a sandwich we made at home with our Italian Sandwich Slices this week. It has our Giardiniera Hummus (also on the current menu), grilled peppers/onions/zucchini, & spinach.
Can’t wait to see what you all make with these zesty pepperoni flavored slices 😍
